SAP BPC Embedded Consolidation is Finally Here

SAP BPC Embedded Consolidation is Here

SAP just released BPC SP09 for NetWeaver BW 7.4 and NetWeaver BW7.5 SP02. Both are enabling the highly anticipated feature for SAP BPC Embedded – Consolidation.  It is a huge step forward, and it will certainly help to increase the adoption rate.

Don’t forget that SAP Embedded is the core of SAP Integrated Business Planning also known as SAP IBP for S4/HANA. It is intended to integrate planning needs of  Finance, Sales, Manufacturing, Procurement, etc.

As I wrote already few times in my blog, BPC Embedded is a crucial product for SAP and a heart of their planning portfolio. Releasing of Consolidation makes this product complete and ready for maturity state. It is exciting news for everybody – Customer, Partners, and Consultants.

The Consolidation in BPC Embedded is functioning almost the same way as the consolidation feature in BPC Standard/Classic Solution.  The main difference is that the underlying objects need to be created in BW and later mapped in BPC. This mapping includes related “models” (Consolidation, Ownership and Rates), dimensions and dimension properties.

Check the following video for better understanding.

Update March 11, 2016: BPC 10.1 SP09 Central Note

Summary

It is pleasing that SAP keeps the interface and the logic of Consolidation functionality comparable to BPC Standard. The experience is consistent, and the Functional Consultant with Accounting background will not have to learn from scratch.

In the same time, BPC Embedded gives more flexibility in the hands of the experts to build comprehensive, integrated solutions. Enjoy and stay tuned for more BPC related stuff :).

  1. FYI, SAP replicated SEM BPS functionality and now it as BPC Embedded.

  2. Thanks for the video. it was nice overview.

Seems we are missing Controls feature in embedded model right?

    • Hi Srinivas,

Excellent acknowledgement. Yes, controls feature is missing in Consolidation tab.

I don’t have deep knowledge in BW-IP, but perhaps we should need to use planning functions – FOX as a work around.

      Regards,
      Emiliyan

    Thank you first initiative video.

  4. Excellent Video. is the consolidation calculation feature remain the same or any new functionality is added to EPM add-in too.

    • Hi Greeta,

I don’t fully understand the question, but for example, DM packages do not exist in BPC Embedded. However, I don’t know yet whether or how we can run consolidation from EPM. Perhaps, from EPM/Pane as the planning functions.

  5. Thanks for the video Emiliyan, great job.

I assume from your demo, as the Consolidation cube has to be bw real-time infocube, we should still have to upload data from FI BW cube to BPC consolidation cube? If yes, we are missing the main advantage we have for planning in Embedded model (real time postings from FI-CO transactions), right?

    • Hi Gustavo,

Yes, you are correct. We are using real-time info-cubes in which we will need to load the data.

However, I don’t know if we can use MultiProviders for that need. I mean having Real-Time view on FI-CO data for read-only and having separate Real-Time InfoCube for storing the Consolidated data. On top of them, Query pointing to the MultiProvider consisting the HANA View InfoProvider and Real-TIme InfoCube. I don’t know the answer on that question yet.

      Emiliyan

  6. Nice Video Emiliyan. Thanks for sharing.

  7. Hi, Thanks for making this video blog. It is very useful. I am trying to us CAL with BW 7.5 SP 01 on HANA, now I am not able to create Cons model on Embedded. I cannot even see HANABPC or CPMB component as add on in the installation area. Do we need to be on atleast SP 02 to enable Consolidation model on Embedded.
    Can you please help

    Kind Regards
    Krishna

  8. Hi Emiliyan
    Thanks for information sharing.
I have a question, to create real time info provider for consolidation is there any infocube template?
For example as per my reading InfoCube WSAN1_G00 for product planning. In the same way is there any specific for consolidation.
If yes, let me know infocube for company consolidation and matrix consolidation.
    Regards
    Rajesh SVN

    • Hi Rajesh,

I used as template the standard SAP BPC Consolidation Cube in the /CPMBC/ namespace. However to make it fine, probably you will need to create the infoobjects first…

I am not aware of any template as a part of the BI-Content, but probably there will be one in the future if it is not existing now.

      Cheers,
      Emiliyan
