Build Own SAP HANA Home Training Server – Assembling

SAP HANA Training Server

Quick update on my progress building SAP HANA Home training server. At the time of my first post on the topic I was waiting for a 64GB memory kit to arrive. Well, it arrived relatively quickly and I was really happy that everything works the way it should. I installed it on the machine which was pretty straightforward process.

On the following video you will see quick recap of how I did the installation of the memory kit. You will also see that I put 512GB SSD which I expect to provide a better performance. The SSD is required or at least highly recommended for SAP HANA DB for what I’ve read and researched so far.

btw. This is my first video with my voice and English it is not in my native language, so please don’t be critical :).

On my next video you will see where I placed the Dell Precision T7400 workstation. It is in our storeroom on a high shelf, next to the fan vent, hoping for a better cooling. Eventhough it is a workstation, not a classic server, it is still quite noisy when it gets a higher load, but in this case it will not be a problem. I had to solve an issue of not having LAN socket in the storeroom relatively easy by buying so called PowerLAN adapters that passes the connection through the home electricity network.

What’s coming next..

Already having entire necessary hardware to start, I am intending to first make installation of BPC on MS SQL as I already have experience with installing SAP ERP on MS SQL. Hopefully I will install it with no headache and then I will go for SAP HANA DB in combination with BPC 10.1.
