SAP FICO Consultant – Part 2: Business Processes Overview

How to Become SAP FICO Consultant - Business Processes Overview

Becoming a SAP FICO Consultant is not simple and straightforward process. Just having knowledge about transaction codes for customization and knowing how to use them will not make you a consultant. SAP FICO Consultancy is about understanding the business processes and knowing how to implement them in the system. When we speak about understanding business processes, FICO is integrated in almost every SAP ERP Module. Being familiar with other SAP modules is not an option, but mandatory knowledge if you want to add real value to the project team. Jumping directly into SAP FICO modules is like becoming an airplane pilot without knowledge about aircraft engines, flaps, hydraulics, equipment, etc.

There are different courses and study materials that you can use for learning, but there are a couple of them which are provided by SAP – SAP01 (SAP Overview) and TERP10 (Integration of Business Processes). While both will give you knowledge about business processes covered in SAP, I really recommend you to go for TERP10. The best thing about those two  is the integration with SAP demo systems. You will have exercises in the end of every chapter which are covered in the SAP ERP IDES System.

It is not really necessary to attend TERP10 in SAP Training centers, because it is an expensive course. You will be very satisfied if you have the money, but it will be sufficient if you can borrow the learning materials. Then you will be able to go through the whole material and do all the exercises. Within the course you will get information about the different SAP products and technical platforms being used.

To get an overview about what you will be able to learn, check out following bullet points with the main topics which are covered in TERP 10 col.95:

  • SAP ERP and SAP NetWeaver
  • ERP Basics
  • Financial Accounting
  • Management Accounting
  • Purchase to Pay Business Process
  • Material Planning Business Process
  • Manufacturing Business Process
  • Order to Cash Business Process
  • Inventory and Warehouse Management
  • Lifecycle Data Management
  • Enterprise Asset Management and Customer Service
  • Program and Project Management
  • Human Capital Management
  • SAP NetWeaver BW

As you can see the course covers every major area of SAP Business Suite. Passing all chapters and related exercises will help to gain basic knowledge about SAP ERP. You will not become neither guru or project manager ready, but you will have a good understanding of the business processes in SAP. You will also have the opportunity to fill in some gaps in your business knowledge. I am stating this, because I already went through TERP10 materials and I am very satisfied with the knowledge that I gained. I believe that it is perfect time spent for starters to develop their basic knowledge.
